The Guardian of the Lily Pads

This round, vibrant frog is the Guardian of the Lily Pads. Hundreds of years ago, he was born from a large, developed empire of frogs. The kingdom was located at the surface of a great pond. Then pond was divided into layers and each layer belonged to a different animal group. He went by the name of Fred and his peers and teachers saw him as a very incompetent individual. He was rather annoying, immature, and loud, constantly being lectured by his classmates for his behavior. Fred came from a very powerful and prestigious family that always compared him to other tadpoles his age. He rebelled and wanted to feel unique from the type of children the frog community bred.

As mentioned before, the frog empire was located at the surface of the pond. The energy for appliances, the food source, and the foundation for many frog homes came from lily pads. They were a very crucial factor to frog survival. Every 5 hundred years, a new guardian for the lily pads is picked. The guardian has to be patient, attentive, and quick to danger if the lily pads were at risk. The Guardian Decision day was approaching and the current guardian was about to retire. The decision process begins with a democratic vote. 5 different young frogs are appointed and the the guardian chooses one of them.

It was Guardian Decision day. All the frogs gathered into the Voting Cabinet, a small cave within the walls of the pond. Each frog voted for one of the young tadpoles and the results came out as Gerald, Amelia, Robert, Sam, and Jeremiah. Each one of these frogs had all of the important traits of attentiveness, patience, and diligence. Most of the frog citizens believed that Gerald was going to be the guardian. He was well liked among his peers and had great maturity. All 5 of the frogs hopped up on a stage in front of the lily pad guardian. The old, wrinkled, faded guardian stared down all the young frogs. It felt as though he was taking bits of their energy and analyzing their auras. He looked down while everyone was anxiously waiting for his choice. He glanced over to Fred who was sitting at the back with his family. Something about his energy was very appealing to the frog. It wasn't like the other auras that he felt. He pointed his wet, webbed foot at Fred and bellowed, "Him." The citizens cheered becasue they thought he was pointing at Gerald, which was a bit awkward after the frog clarified that he was pointing at Fred.

Fred was now beginning his training. Now the entire empire was against him because he was chosen over the 5 prodigal frogs. The guardian spent weeks training with Fred. He never slept, ate, or rested for an entire month straight. Although Fred didn't seem fit for this job, he actually was very hardworking and took the job very seriously. His immaturity grew into a responsible frog. The community's trust in him was slowly returning, but he was still treated as an outcast.

One evening, Fred was guarding the lily pads by himself while his master was out attending a meeting with the fish empire's guardian. A great giant passed by the lake disrupting the peace of the frog empire. The giant threw in a long string in the center of the kingdom with a sharp metal hook. All the frogs were ribbiting with fright. Fred wasn't hesitant to pounce at the string. When he jumped at it, he knocked into a flower that landed on top of his head. He cut the hook off the string and threw it out of the pond. The giant shouted with anger and walked away from the pond. The frogs cheered for Fred and have had great respect for him ever since that day. Fred continued to wear the flower as a trophy for his first battle.
